New York Explorer Pass

The best choice for most visitors. You decide how many attractions you want (2 to 10) and pick them from the full Go City list. After your first visit you have 30 days, so there is no time pressure.

Put the expensive sights in the pass, such as Top of the Rock, Edge or the Statue of Liberty ferry. Cheap admissions are better paid for separately.

With SUMMIT as a combo ticket

Explorer Pass + SUMMIT

Go City does not offer SUMMIT One Vanderbilt. That is why Tiqets sells the Explorer Pass together with a SUMMIT ticket, with both parts 5% cheaper than buying them separately at Tiqets.

You book both parts in one step at Tiqets and choose the date and time slot for SUMMIT as you do.

Up top you find mirrored rooms, glass ledges over Madison Avenue and a view that reaches the Empire State Building.

What the entries mean. “included”: covered by the price. “to choose”: you can pick the attraction as one of yours. “1 deck to choose”: with the Essentials Pass you take exactly one of the four observation decks. “premium choice”: counts as a premium attraction in the Headout Pass. “via combo ticket”: not in the pass, but bookable together with it at Tiqets. Provider details as of 8 October 2026.

Combo tickets with SUMMIT and The Met

Neither Go City nor CityPASS® includes SUMMIT One Vanderbilt or the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The combo tickets from Tiqets fill exactly this gap.

There you can get the Explorer Pass or the New York Pass with a SUMMIT ticket, with 5% off both pass and ticket. For The Met, the New York Pass comes with a guided tour of about two hours, entry included. There is no Explorer Pass plus The Met combo ticket.

Without a combo ticket, only the Headout New York Pass offers SUMMIT and guided tours of The Met, as premium attractions.

Which pass suits whom

  • You are staying a week and have four or five fixed sights: New York Explorer Pass.
  • You only have a few days and want to fit in three or four attractions a day: The New York Pass®. Start early on the first day, because calendar days count.
  • SUMMIT is a must: a combo ticket with SUMMIT or the Headout New York Pass.
  • Short stay, one observation deck and two museums or a boat trip: New York Essentials Pass. The Statue of Liberty is not included.
  • Your children are 13 to 17: Go City already charges them the adult price, the New York CityPASS® only from 18. Compare carefully here.
  • Museums come first: read the museum guide, because The Met is only available as a guided tour.

Is a pass worth it for you?

Bought separately, the big sights cost adults roughly this much according to Go City: Edge about $69, Top of the Rock about $65, Empire State Building (86th floor) about $57, One World Observatory about $48, Natural History Museum about $43, Intrepid Museum about $38, 9/11 Museum about $36, Statue of Liberty ferry about $26.

Two observation decks, the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Museum already add up to around $170 to $200, depending on the decks. What the Explorer Pass with four attractions costs is shown in the table above. Only count sights you would visit anyway. On citypass.com a $2 handling fee per ticket is added. All admission prices are on the attractions page.

The Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, seen from the water
The ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island is included in the New York Pass and the C-All®, and is one of the options in the Explorer Pass, CityPASS®, C3® and Headout Pass. The pedestal and crown need a separate ticket.

The CityPASS® passes

Three products, each valid for nine days from your first day of visits or your first reserved date: New York CityPASS® (five of ten attractions), New York C3® (three of eleven) and New York C-All® (all eleven). The CityPASS® lets you go up the Empire State Building in the morning and again at night, and Top of the Rock is valid at any time of day. MoMA is only included in the C3® and C-All®. SUMMIT, One World Observatory and The Met are missing from CityPASS® altogether.

Before you travel

  1. Buy directly from Go City and enter the code NYPCITYVERG05. It saves 5% on all three Go City passes, and you can cancel for 90 days as long as the pass is not activated.
  2. After buying, reserve the time slots for the Statue of Liberty and the observation decks first; according to Go City they go quickly. With Go City, the ferry can be booked no more than seven days ahead.
  3. Choose an early slot for the Statue of Liberty. From 2 pm on, according to CityPASS, there is not enough time left for Ellis Island.
  4. Save MoMA, the Natural History Museum and the Intrepid for rainy days; with Go City you get in there without a reservation.

Frequently asked questions

Which New York Pass should I buy?
For most visitors, the New York Explorer Pass: you pick three to six sights and spread them over up to 30 days. If you want to see a lot in two to four days, The New York Pass® is cheaper. If SUMMIT One Vanderbilt is a must on your list, book the pass as a combo ticket with SUMMIT or take the Headout New York Pass.
Is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt included in the New York Pass?
No. None of the Go City passes includes SUMMIT, not the New York Pass, the Explorer or the Essentials, and CityPASS® does not have it either. The way around it: Tiqets sells the Go City passes as a combo ticket with SUMMIT, with 5% off both parts. In the Headout New York Pass you can choose SUMMIT as a premium attraction.
Is there a pass that includes The Met?
Go City and CityPASS® do not include The Met in any pass. At Tiqets you can combine The New York Pass® with a guided tour of The Met lasting around two hours, entry included. The Headout New York Pass offers guided tours of The Met as premium attractions. No pass includes a simple admission without a tour.
Is there a discount code for Go City?
Yes: NYPCITYVERG05. It takes 5% off the Explorer Pass, Essentials Pass and New York Pass on gocity.com. Enter the code at checkout. It does not work at Tiqets, Headout or GetYourGuide.
Can I cancel a Go City pass?
Yes, if you buy directly from Go City. According to Go City, you get your money back within 90 days of purchase as long as the pass has not been activated. If you buy through Tiqets, cancellation is not possible according to Tiqets. Headout and GetYourGuide have their own rules.
CityPASS®, C3® or C-All®: what is the difference?
New York CityPASS®: 5 of 10 attractions. {pass:c3}: 3 of 11. New York C-All®: all 11. All three are valid for nine days. MoMA is only in the C3® and C-All®. The Empire State Building morning and night and more Circle Line cruises are only in the CityPASS®. Adult price: CityPASS® from age 18, C3® and C-All® from 13.
Which is better, CityPASS® or Explorer Pass?
With both you buy a set number of attractions. The Explorer Pass has the bigger list, including One World Observatory, MoMA, Big Bus and many tours, and gives you 30 days. The CityPASS® is valid for nine days, but it takes you up the Empire State Building twice in one day and charges the child price for teenagers up to 17. The table shows which one is cheaper for your number of attractions.
Which observation deck is the best?
It depends on the view you want. The Empire State Building gives you the panorama over the whole city. From Top of the Rock you look at Central Park and the Empire State Building. Edge stands out for its glass floor, SUMMIT for its mirror rooms. Details in the observation deck guide.
Do I have to reserve in advance?
Yes for the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, Edge, the Statue of Liberty ferry and the 9/11 Museum. One World Observatory needs no reservation with Go City. Go City uses the Go City App for this, CityPASS® the My CityPASS® app. With the Headout Pass you reserve each attraction separately after buying. With Go City, many museums need no reservation.
From what age do you pay the adult price?
Go City: from 13. Children (3 to 12) have their own price. CityPASS®: from 18, children are 6 to 17. C3® and C-All®: again from 13. Headout Pass: adults 13 to 99, children 5 to 12.
Can I go up to the crown of the Statue of Liberty with the pass?
No. Go City and CityPASS® cover the official ferry, the grounds of Liberty Island and Ellis Island, the museums and an audio guide. For the pedestal and crown you need a ticket directly from Statue City Cruises.
Is the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building included?
No, not in any pass. Go City, CityPASS® and Headout take you to the 86th floor. If you want to go higher or up at sunset, Go City charges extra in the app.
